Description
Amun-her-khepeshef was the eldest son and appointed heir of Pharaoh Ramesses III. Like many of his brothers, he was named after a son of Ramesses II, Amun-her-khepeshef. He died when he was about fifteen years old. He is also mentioned as Ramesses Amun-her-khepeshef. He is not identical with his brother Ramesses VI, who was also called Amun-her-khepeshef before he became pharaoh. He is depicted in his father's temple at Medinet Habu. His well preserved tomb, QV55 (in the Valley of the Queens) was excavated by Italian archaeologists in 1903-1904.
Visiting Egypt means most of the times a visit to Luxor and especially to the westbank to the valley of the Kings. And although there are beautiful tombs with stunning decorations, i would suggest a visit to the valley of the Queens and especially to some tombs which were build for young children. There are two famous ones, Khaemwase and Amunherkhepeshef. And it is this last one were this picture was taken.
The paintwork is stunning, if it's painted last week, fresh and bright with great colours and superb artwork....considering this is made around 1150BC..!!!
This picture is from 1992, when i was there again in 2001 they placed large glass panels in front of the paintings to protect them as much as possible. Making pictures like this was no longer possible without having bad reflections from the glass.
